Reflections

Celebrating Halloween with a very old, very cynical song about being betrayed by everyone around you and dying alone.

I thought I would make Vy2’s avatar here a bakeneko, the shape-changing demon cat from Japanese folk traditions. Is he simply observing the subject of the song’s demise, or has he had some part in it? Is he giving sound advice, or mocking the fact we’re all completely powerless to take it?

I love the 19th-century-street-musician flavor of this song. It’s quite properly gothic. Also, if the tuning makes Vy2 sound a little drunk, that’s not entirely unintentional.

I found the tempo changes downright nightmarish. It’s the first time I’ve had to use an odd number as a count marker. It took me forever to figure out that using even counts was the very thing throwing it off.
